Foodie Friday -- December 5th

Welcome to Foodie Friday!
How was your holiday? Have you been busy baking? Decking the halls? Or looking up recipes for leftover turkey?

I was just thinking today how much I love December.
It's the season for hot tea and candles.

It's the time for mincemeat tarts.

It's the most wonderful time of the year for tablescaping!

Thanksgiving at Foodie Friday -- November 27th

Welcome to the Thanksgiving edition of Foodie Friday. We're a bit early this year as
everyone will be busy baking and celebrating. Both Mister and Zap have been
under the weather, but after some home nursing, they're feeling a little better.
I haven't been out and about, so Bandwidth kindly brought home a decorating magazine from Publix.

Zap and Mister are, of course, decorating Yorkies, and Zap had an opinion.

If only he could tell me the paint color. :-)

The winner of the $100 Williams-Sonoma gift card is Kitty's Kozy Kitchen. Congratulations, Kitty,
and thanks to everyone who participated.

We wish you and your loved ones a Happy Thanksgiving!

Foodie Friday in the Forest

The Novel Bakers
present the third and final day of
A Forest Feast by Erin Gleeson.

This cookbook helped me discover a marvelous thing ...

Butternut Squash.

Oh, I was a squash Philistine. I don't think my mother fed me the squash because
baby food probably hadn't been invented back then. But it's never too late to try something new.
They remind me of oven baked potatoes--minus the calories. While this squash does have a hearty share of carbohydrates, they're good for you.

Step 1: Peel and cube 1 butternut squash. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Roast at 425 degrees F for 25-30 minutes.
Step 2: Combine cubes with 1 c. cherry tomatoes (sliced), 1 avocado (cubed), 1 c smoked mozzarella (cubed), and 1/2 cup basil, chopped.
Step 3: Dress with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper.

I also made an asparagus tart.
The addition of pine nuts added texture, and the herbs gave it a little zing.

Asparagus Tart
Defrost 1 frozen puff pastry sheet. Roll  out and place in a greased pan. "Pinch
edges up to make a crust." Spread a thin layer of soft Brie over the bottom. Beat 1 egg and pour it
over the cheese. Add 15 raw asparagus stalks. Sprinkle with 2 T pine nuts, 2 T capers, 1/2 t garlic powder, 1/2 t dried Italian herbs and salt/pepper to taste. Bake 375 degrees F for 20 minutes.

The Foodie Friday Link Party -- November 14

The weather outside is frightful, but the kitchen is toasty warm at the Foodie Friday Link Party! I can't wait to see the inspiring Thanksgiving dishes this week.

Me, I have been making sure that I get plenty of carbohydrates.
Using store-bought cupcakes, Bandy and I made a dozen Wild Turkeys.

And a few wilder ones HERE.

You can see Owlbert Einstein and his sidekicks Dr. Hoooo, Dr. Whoo Cares, and
way down below, Dr. Hoo-Ha over in this TREE.

We had a food-filled party last week--something for every table, from Honey Pumpkin Cornbread by Cookie with K  to Pilgrim Hat Treats and Turkey Cupcakes by The Chicken Chick  to Apple Hand Pies with Eggnog Icing by Fairy Wings and Pixie Dust.

Let's take a look at the most-viewed recipes from last week's party. Grab a note pad because you'll want to make a grocery list.

#1 most-viewed recipe was a "Wise Owl Cheeseball" by Kitty's Kozy Kitchen.
Totally cute and perfect for your Thanksgiving table.
Click for the recipe and to "pin."

#2 most-viewed recipe was "Homemade Chicken and Rice Soup" by Cooking with K.
This delicious soup will be perfect all winter, especially when you're under the weather.
Click for the recipe and to "pin."

The #3 most-viewed recipe was Views from the Ville's  "Copycat Roadhouse Rolls." Sometimes I think I could live on bread alone, especially if the bread looks like this,
so I can't wait to try this recipe.
Click for the recipe and to "pin."

The 4th most-viewed post featured two delicious recipes by Return to Loblolly:  "Mustard Greens Soup and Marbled Peanut Butter Sugar-Free Brownies."
Click for the recipe and to "pin."

The 5th most-viewed recipe was "Crispy Potatoes" at Make Mine Lemon. Madonna is one
of my favorite cooks, and she weaves a delightful story to go with many of her posts. Her potatoes look scrumptious.
Click for the recipe and to "pin."
